Cook / Cleaner

Newmarket shelter has an opportunity for a full time experienced cooks and cleaner.  Must be fluent in a second language.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare meals according to the meal plan and Canada food guide
• Experience cooking for large groups with a varied menu
• Monitor food inventory in all programs and ensure there is an adequate and appropriate supply of nutritious food options
• Regular cleaning of food equipment, appliances and facilities in accordance with Public Health guidelines and standards
• Instruct and assist residents in cleaning private rooms and public areas
• Ensure all relevant record keeping is up-to-date and reports are submitted as required.

Qualifications:

• Successful completion of cooking, food preparation and/or nutrition courses
• Two to three years of relevant experience and experience working with homeless or similar population is preferred
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills including being fluent in a second language
• Crisis Intervention Training will be considered an asset
• Demonstrate ability to work independently and as part of an effective team
• Ability to effectively deal with conflict and crisis in a professional manner
• Flexible and able to work within a varied work schedule, reliable vehicle, drivers licence and insurance
• CPR, First Aid and vulnerable sector screening
