Seeking a passionate foodie with culinary expertise who enjoys cooking on the creative edge; bursting with ideas for new ready-to-eat meals, sauces and foods; full of enthusiasm to create products that will be the next big thing! Full Time: 40 hrs/wk, Compensation: $18-$20/hr
Qualifications:
- Completion of post secondary school education in Food Sciences, Culinary, Home Economics, trade certification, or related field and/or Degree in food product management, food technology or a related subject
- Certified for food product handling and ability to grasp sterilisation and preservation processes
- 1-2 years experience food manufacturing industry. Specifically in food product development with an understanding of recipe development and commercialization of new products
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability problem solve; manage and prioritize multiple projects/tasks (strong time management & organizational skills); meet deadlines; and make decisions
- A strong culinary background with insight on food and consumer trends
- Expert knowledge/understanding of food ingredients, functionality, and nutrition
- Candidates must exhibit a keen interest in developing unique food and related products
- Must be creative and innovative thinking, with a passion for food, a solid palette and sensory skills
- Poses a Business/Commercial acumen to develop products within target costs
- The position requires a quick learner to familiarize with equipment set-up and capabilities
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Follow Good Manufacturing Practices to ensure the consistent delivery of quality and safe products to our customers
- Manage confidential recipe portfolio
- Make current products
- Investigate and recommend new ingredients
- Troubleshoot/improve existing workflow systems to maximize company resources, improve product quality, and implement new production techniques
- Stay ahead of consumer taste trends
- Coordinate production schedule to ensure samples can be produced without impacting regular production runs
- Develop and create new innovative ready-to-eat meals and food products that will be exclusive to the company from conception through to commercialization, while maintaining the premium quality of the brand and its existing product line
- Estimate food requirements and labour costs
- Develop recipe formulations using company processes and production techniques
- Create product samples, solve issues on initial products
- Analyze results from sample runs and develop reports based on taste, texture, shaping, functionality, weight, size, and cost analysis based on production details
- Ensure recipes, specifications and packaging techniques are followed
- Able to deal with customers regarding product inquiries
- Experience with Rational oven an asset
